Abstract
Directed donor program (DDP) has been tried for the transfusion of raw plasma to 89 surgical patients with primary liver cancer at Seoul National University Hospital. The results of predonation tests and the relationships between the directed
patients
and the directed donors were analyzed. Among the 1893 candidates tested for predonation serological markers, 1556 (82.2%) were found eligible for blood donation and 1186 (76.2%) donated blood. 106(5.5%) candidates were deferred due to ABO
incompatibility against the directed recipients and 231 candidates (12.3%) were deferred due to elevated alanine aminotransferase (ALT>40IU/L) and/or infectious disease markers. 189 (15.9%) of 1186 directed donors were the relatives of the
recipients.
39.3 percent of the directed blood units were transfused to the directed recipents as rw plasma (76.1%), whole blood (22.4%) and other blood components (1.5%), and 60.7% to the non-directed recipients mainly as RBCs (49.8%) and platelet
concentrates (49.6%).
